Min Aung Hlaing became commander-in-chief of the Tatamadaw, the armed forces of Myanmar, on 30 March 2011 with the rank of General. He continued to hold this position and rank until at least 23 March 2012. During this time there was at least one alleged disappearance, killing, rape or torture committed by unit(s) under his command. He was then promoted in rank to Vice Senior General by at least 2 April 2012 and continued to hold that rank to at least 28 February 2013. He was then promoted again to the rank of Senior General by at least 4 April 2013 and has held that rank since that date as well as continued to be the commander-in-chief of the Tatmadaw.
