Than Tun Oo‡

Than Tun Oo commanded 14 Military Operations Command before becoming a senior army commander with his appointment to command the Triangle Regional Military Command in August 2010 with the rank of Brigadier General. He held that rank until at least July 2011 after which he was promoted to Major General, a rank he held from at least 3 May 2012 to at least February 15 2015. While holding the rank of Major General and commanding the Triangle Regional Military Command there was at least one alleged disappearance, killing, rape or torture committed by unit(s) under his command. Following this he was promoted in rank to Lieutenant General and was commander of 2 Bureau of Special Operations from at least December 106 to at least 3 July 2019. Sources also report on a person named Than Tun Oo who commanded the 6 Bureau of Special Operations. Our methodology never assumes people with the same or similar names in two different positions are the same person. We need a source to say they are the same person. It is likely that this person is the same as Than Tun Oo.
